My husband and I were very young when that wonderful day came about. He had just graduated from college and did not have very much money to spend on an engagement ring. His father knew how much he wanted to give me a ring and offered to help finance it. A diamond ring was out of the question, but gemstone jewelry seemed to be a beautiful way to propose. I must say it was a beautiful ring and I could not have loved it more had it been a diamond. He bought a beautiful wedding band to go with it. I wore those rings and cherished them for many years. We have been married for a long time and for our 20th wedding anniversary I bought my husband a beautiful wedding band and he bought me and engagement ring fit for a queen. My first engagement is my prized possession and I still wear it most of the time. I have decided to give it to my first granddaughter when I have one.
