Engagement Ring
My friend asked me some questions about when to give an engagement ring. It is a sign of love and wanting to spend the rest of your lives together. But what happens if you become engaged and then your relationship does not last?
I did some research and found the rule of thumb for an engagement ring is that the person who does the break up does not keep the ring. Though returning the ring when an engagement is over is considered the right thing to do. The person who bought the ring or is still paying for the ring should get it back. The only exception is when the engagement ring was given as a gift. If the ring was given as a Christmas or Birthday gift than the legal ruling is that it does not need to be returned no matter who did the break up. It is a gift all on its own. Quick and simple solution, make the engagement an event not tied to a Birthday or Christmas.
Becoming engaged is a sign of commitment of both parties. If you are concerned about when to give an engagement ring, because you might break up, then you are not ready to be engaged.
